The Chesterfield Inn, formerly the village of Recklesstown, just south of Crosswicks. This inn was the headquarters
of Gen. Knyphausen
"General Knyphausen, who had kept further to the right, advanced to Recklesstown, where he encountered many obstacles
at Black's Creek, an arm of Rancocas Creek, for Brigadier General Maxwell and his detachment of six hundred infantrymen and
Colonel Moylan with one hundred and fifty horse had demolished all the bridges they could. They did not have much trouble
in accomplishing this, in spite of the few troops. Washington had not expected the British army to keep so far to the
right, but supposed it would pass through Burlington to Kingston and then take the road over Rocky Hill to Brunswick."
